Dr. Jennifer Moran is the Scientific Director of the Genome Engineering Core Facility. She introduced the use of Synthetic DNA into the repertoire of GEC services and is currently collaborating with Dr. John Reinitz and GGSB student Kenneth Barr, constructing synthetic enhancers in order to rigorously test and refine their cis-regulatory model.
With the Genome Engineering Core team, Dr. Moran works on custom-design projects as required by CCSB investigators. She also contributes to the generation of GFP-tagged human transcription factors for ENCODE. Dr. Moran and GEC Technical Director Alec Victorsen provide pre-experimental consultation to investigators who seek to incorporate advanced transgenic technology into their research programs.
Dr. Moran received her S.B. (Biochemistry) and Ph.D. (Genetics) from the University of Chicago. Her thesis concerned reproductive isolation and speciation in Drosophila melanogaster. She has a long-standing interest in education and teaches an innovative laboratory course for students in the College, BIOS 21410 Synthetic Biology and Regulation of Genes.
